Gary A. Betz II, MD is a native of Columbus, Ohio where he attended Otterbein College earning a Bachelors Degree in Life Science and graduating Magna Cum Laude with distinctions. He worked at Silliker Laboratories and The Ohio State University Medical Center while he continued his education at The Ohio State University. Dr. Betz attended medical school at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Upon his completion of medical school, Dr. Betz moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he completed his Internal Medicine Residency at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Betz is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. In 2010, Dr Betz was named one of Phoenix's "Top Docs" by his peers and recognized in Phoenix Magazine.
Dr. Betz has always had an interest in teaching. During college he worked as a teaching assistant in many of the science labs at Otterbein. Upon completing his residency he was asked to serve as Chief Resident and Junior Faculty for St. Joseph's Hospital's Internal Medicine Residency Program. He was promoted to a Full Time Academic Hospitalist where he worked prior to opening his outpatient practice. Today Dr. Betz continues to serve as Part Time Faculty for the St. Joseph's Internal Medicine Residency Mercy Care Clinic providing care to the underserved. Dr Betz also has residents work with him in his office throughout the year as part of their ambulatory training.
Dr. Betz is married to Mia Betz who is a Certified Neuroscience Intensive Care Nurse at Barrow Neurologic Institute. They live in north Scottsdale with their daughter and son. In his free time Dr. Betz enjoys being a father, working on home improvement projects, movies, reading, and golfing.
